del Norte - Day 13 (15-May-2016): Santa Cruz de Bezan to Santillana del Mar (19.7km)

We made a morning decision:  We knew we would need to take a train one stop across a river to avoid a long detour.  Then realized we could take the train for three stops and leave very close to our hotel and save an hour of walking - we chose the train.  We bagan walking at the Mogro train station.  Morning was a bit foggy and threatened to rain but did not.  Walking was mostly through countryside on either lanes or quiet roads.  The day ended at Santillana del Mar, reputed to be one of the most picturesque villages in Spain.  We toured a 12h century Romanesque cloister and church and wandered the village, drinking wine (of course!) at the square near our pensionne (Hospedaje Angelica).  There were lots of other tourists, this being a Sunday, but not too bad.

Things really quieted down by 8pm with most tourists gone.  We had a nice dinner at bar across the plaza.

Morning walk in fog and mist - ocean in background

Beautiful and green countryside

Even though walking along a road - nice views

Our room - very nice place -$40//night.

Harp player on the square - all the little children were fascinated
We enjoyed wine outside this bar/restaurant on the square adjacent to our lodgings
