Via de la Plata - Day 33: Asturianos to Requejo de Sanabria (28.2km on 5/21/17)

Got up at 5:30am, had a banana and cookies (no cafe!) for breakfast and were out by 6:40.  Walked mostly on dirt track more or less parallel to the N-525 highway.  It was warmer than yesterday but overcast.  We passed through several villages but without services.  Lots of abandoned and falling down houses but in some villages there were nice places mixed in.  After 19km we reached Puebla de Sanabria and it had all facilities with an old town that had been a walled city situated on a hilltop surrounded on two sides by a river.  We finally had our cafe con leche and a nice piece of tortilla!  We walked through the old town and then back to a path along the Castro river.  At times we walked on the N-525 and I found that very hard on my right ankle - probably getting tendonitis or some such thing.  We continued on and after 28.2km reached our destination of Requejo de Sanabria.  This is a small town with all facilities and we checked into the Albergue Casa Cervino - a private albergue and quite nice.  We even have towells and sheets provided.  We lounged around, did laundry after showering and had dinner at the restaurant next door.  A 3 course pilgrim menu for 7.5 euros.

Pleasant walking path through the forest.

Entering the first village of the day

Old stone buildings - many were in quite bad shape but this one seems to still be in use

Later in the morning we walked on one lane asphalt roads

The old part of Puebla de Sanabris on the hilltop

Medieval bridge - across the Castro river just outside of Puebla de Sanabria

Old churches were in most of the villages
