Day 23 (10/15) - Carrion de los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza (17.4km)

We slept in a bit because we planned on a short day walking. Contrary to the weather forecast, it was drizzling when we finished breakfast and did not stop drizzle until noon or so. The walk did not offer any places to stop or even any shelter until 17km and that was where we stopped. Stopped at a nice place, Hostal Real Camino, that we stayed at last year and have a double room with a bathtub even, a real luxury to soak a bit. Had a good bottle of wine and a pizza for a late lunch and then relaxed in the room. Last year we were here on October 10th so only 5 days earlier but there are quite a bit fewer pilgrims than we remember. Had the pilgrim dinner in the dining room and enjoyed a good night's sleep in our private room and listening to the wind and the rain.

Walking in the rain along a one lane paved or gravel farm roads. No villages or bars for the entire day! In fact, only one small covered rest area and a few picnic tables out in the weather. Not very many pictures taken today because of the rainy conditions.

12km stretch walking on top of the "via Aquitana", the Roman road from Bordeaux to Astorga. The road is covered with a layer of gravel so we didn't get to see the actual old surface.

Our destination - Hostal Camino Real in Calzadilla de la Cueza.

Location:Calzadilla de la Cueza, Spain
