Day 22 (10/10) - Carrion de Los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza (17.4km)

They turned on the lights in our dormitory at 6:30am so not much choice but to get up and out. Grabbed some pastry and a baguette at a nearby bakery and then coffee on the way out of town. The pre-sunrise was chilly and misty but the pathway was easy to find. A pretty monotonous day once we got out of town with 80% being on a nearly straight gravel road through very large fields. We stopped to have chocolate and then again late morning to picnic on jamon, cheese, baguette and olives. Arrived at destination shortly after noon. My right ankle/calf is still aching (tendonitis) so it is really nice to be done for the day. Calzadilla de la Cueza is a very small town where the camino crosses a highway. Got nice double room with private bath at Hostal Camino Real -- they also run an 80 bed albergue but we've spent the past two nights in bunkbeds and wanted to relax a bit on our "short day" of only 17km. So, are enjoying a nice room with sheets, towels and a private bath.

Pilgrims on the path just before sunrise.

Our lodging - Hostal Camino Real (Hostals are small hotel/pension)

Pilgrims' dinner.

Location:Calzadilla de la Cueza
