Day 24 (10/12) - Sahagun to Calzadilla de Los Hermanillos (13km)

We knew today was going to be a short day, since the next stop after 13km would be 38km and definitely outside of our range, so did not set our alarm and were surprised to sleep in until 8am. Very nice since the usual pilgrim dormitory routine is to be up and gone by 7am. We had breakfast at the nearby city square and explored the Saturday market. The fresh vegetables were impressive since we rarely/never see them on our dinner plates! Once we got a few kilometers outside of Sahagun, we took an alternate route that follows the route of an important Roman road, Via Trajana, through an unpopulated area and arrived at our destination before noon. This is a sleepy little farming town and tractors are often parked in front of the village homes where we might expect to see cars. We found a combination albergue & hostal, Via Trajana, and (of course) opted for the private room and bath. That's three nights in a row where we have treated ourselves to "luxury" so it will be hard to go back to bunkbeds. We had a nice lunch, did laundry and just relaxed. Dinner was the nicest pilgrim meal that we have had so far in an albergue or hostel! It was home cooked in this family run hostal and the people were so nice!
