Portuguese - Day 3 (6-Oct-2018): Barcelinhos to "Casa Fernanda" (21.3km)

Barcelinhos to “Casa Fernanda”  (21.3km): +351 914 58 95 21 Our albergue last night only had two pilgrims other than us.  They were up by ~6:30 and out the door by 7am so that prompted us to get up.  We heated water in the microwave and had instant coffee and a snack for breakfast and were out the door a bit after sunrise.  We still had a lot of cobble road and hard surfaces but a bit less than yesterday. Stopped for second breakfast after ~6km and then continued on.  More hills and open country than yesterday. After nearly 15km we stopped for lunch and then continued, reaching “Casa Fernanda” an albergue run by a Portuguese woman, Fernanda, and quite well known.  Pretty much anyone we talked to who had walked this route said, “You need to stop at Casa Fernanda”. In fact, I’m not sure of the location other than it’s half-way between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima and it’s run by Fernanda.  Fortunately, she will answer her phone and will accept reservations (by phone only). I called her berfore we left the USA and she said that she had a surprise for my wife. When we arrived she showed us to the only private room with bath that she had -- everything else was twin beds (not bunks) in a single room.  Cindy was pleasantly surprised by our room since she was expecting to sleep in a bunk bed in a large shared room. We enjoyed the garden and hospitality, had wine at a local bar and then a communal meal back in Fernanda’s house. There were 14 of us around the table and we enjoyed a simple yet tasty meal along with lots of local wine.

With apologies:  today's upload of photos is in reverse order - end of day is at the "top" and beginning of day is at the "bottom" of the post.

Casa Fernanda - pretty much anyone we've talked to has said, "you must stay here"!

Afternoon track

Church along the way

A smoother and "softer track"

Cindy being admired by the bassett hounds

A kinder and prettier look of the cobblestoned track

Way too much walking on cobblestones so far!
